These photographs of the Songthrush I have taken in the garden of my parents where a nest was built in the ivy.
I think the Songthrush is one of the best singers that we encounter in the Netherlands. The singing is loud and clear, louder than that of Blackbird. The Songthrush is slightly smaller than a Blackbird. Striking is the spotted breast. He is very similar to the large thrush but which is significantly larger.
The Songthrush lives in parks, forests, farms with trees and hedges, in gardens, parks with lawns and bushes.
Nest: They smear their nest inside moist soil, wet moss and leaf they benefit from a pond, gutters or other damp places, which is smooth nest beautiful brick.
The Songthrush remains in the Netherlands for the summer. It is a summer guest. The birds sometimes remain in the villages. The others are leaving around September / October and then to Southern Europe and Northern Africa. In March, they travel back. Sometimes even in February. When the young birds are able enough to help themselves, they leave the nest.
Unlike Blackbirds, Songthrushers like to eat snails in summertime.
In the autumn Songthrush like to eat the berries next to the usual diet of worms and snails.
Their lifetime endures approximately 5 years.
